I was digging through my RSS feeds and came across an interesting story from MIT Advertising Lab. Sony's Bravia, which has an incredible brand story, has registered over 2.2 million page views on YouTube in 5 months. I am relatively new to this whole thing, but something tells me that having searchable and addressable ads will make advertisers extremely happy.
I heard about this back when it was being filmed in San Francisco. It generated a ton of online buzz...then everyone found out the ad only aired outside the US! I personally could not believe that Sony would not buy some airtime for this ad, but I suppose it did not fit into their "media plan" of the moment. The extended reach of this ad shows the power of YouTube as well as the power of a good viral ad once it is in the hands of the consumer. Lets just hope Sony doesn't send over a cease and desist.
